Our patients at Pariser Dermatology Specialists often ask us about safe, non-surgical ways to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines that have crept up over time. Our medical providers are skilled in both general dermatology as well as cosmetic dermatology and offer plenty of options, from Botox and fillers to laser treatments, microneedling and Ultherapy®.
When asked what she likes most about practicing dermatology, Pariser Dermatology Specialists’s Dr. Laine Koch smiles and says how much she “enjoys seeing a variety of patients daily, each with their unique medical and cosmetic needs.” Her kind, warm nature makes her an automatic favorite with her “regular” patients who entrust her with their general dermatological care and annual skin cancer screenings. Her regular patients are also the reason Dr. Koch decided to explore the vast landscape of cosmetic dermatology—“My patients were asking me for ways to slow down the aging process and improve their skin.”
What is Ultherapy®?
Ultherapy® is a non-surgical treatment that counteracts the effects of gravity on your skin. It uses the body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin on the eyebrows, under the chin and on the neck. It can also smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. For many, it’s considered a non-surgical facelift, and your dermatologist can target specific problem-areas you want to address. Ultherapy® is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA to actually “lift” skin.
“Skin is something we have with us for life,” said Laine Koch, MD, who oversees Ultherapy treatments at Pariser Dermatology. “We have so many options that are less invasive and more natural than many patients think. It’s important that we take care of ourselves when we can, and today we can treat our skin for the long run.” Ultherapy is a great option for patients who don’t want to do something surgical, but want to see a natural, gradual improvement in their skin, instead of drastic or noticeable change. “The data and results vouch for the validity of this procedure.”
How Ultherapy® Works
The Ultherapy® process sends heat via ultrasound to the connective tissue under the skin. This causes contractions that have a lifting and tightening effect on the visible skin of the treated areas. The heat also stimulates the production of collagen that works to lift and tighten skin on the neck, chin and brow, and smooth skin on the chest.
“We refer to this type of procedure as a ‘lunchtime procedure’ because you can go back to the office, and it won’t look like you had anything done,” said Dr. Koch. “You may experience redness, but that typically goes down in a matter of minutes. You may also notice fullness in your skin for 24 to 48 hours, and it looks very natural.”
The most significant results are gradual and will be noticeable approximately 3 to 6 months after your Ultherapy® treatment. The results will last anywhere from 1 to 2 years. The cost is moderate compared to more invasive plastic surgery or injectables, which must be repeated more often.
